New Hate Annual

Peter Bagge's newest is out. I wasn't all that happy with the art or the beginning of the story, until a face from the past popped up. I won't tell you who it is, but the character arc is similar to Butch's transformation from Neat Stuff to Hate. All of a sudden, I couldn't put it down. Of course it's a cliff hanger ending, so I'll have to wait another year to find out what happens next.

The annual also has tons of mediocre filler.

By the end of Hate's initial run, the "mediocre filler" was what made it worth buying... same w/ the subsequent Hate annuals. Here's hoping he includes some Jim Blanchard or Rick Altergott stuff in this one, or an as-yet-undiscovered comix artist... say what you will about Bagge as a cartoonist, but he always did have a good eye for talent since his days as editor of Weirdo.

The mediocre filler is all Bagge. Big Jim Blanchard fan. Rick occassionally elicited a giggle or two. And yes, I agree about Pete's eye for talent. His Weirdo run is my favorite.
