Hey. In addition to being a huge graphic novel fan myself, I have a friend who loves them, and has a birthday coming up. What can you reccomend for a good one to give as a present? She adores Craig Thompson, Dave McKean, Neil Gaiman, Little Nemo, that sort of thing. What can you reccomend?

Tue, March 15, 2005 - 8:45 AMYeah, I suppose that selection of authors really only suggested that she likes graphic novels in general. Ah well, I'm sure I'll find something.
^__^
I was just hoping somebody had just found something new they thought was super-awesome. -

Tue, March 15, 2005 - 9:27 AMThe "Maus" books are phenomenal. Joe Matt's "Peepshow" is hilarious. I recently read Chester Brown's "I Never Liked You" and was both laughing and moved.
I guess those are all pretty old, though... -

Tue, March 15, 2005 - 10:58 AMIt is very hard to go wrong with one of Edward Gorey's anthologies, like Amphigorey. Not precisely a graphic novel, but marvelous nonetheless.

Rent Girl
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 5:42 PMHas anyone else read this book? What did people think?
I haven't read it yet, but the people I know who have seem rather lukewarm about it -- but they all seem to have *wanted* to love it, which is an interesting dynamic.
I like Michelle Tea's writing, and I like the illustrator (her name escapes me), so I'd imagine I'd want to love it, as well.
Any thoughts? -
